The DC Comics Level Pack is a story DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2 that follows Sackboy’s adventures as he teams foils Lex Luther’s plan to imprison the Justice League and steal their power. For the pack, I developed several new code features, including a new hub-based progression system and worked with tools and UI design.
Progression System
The new progression system for this pack allowed design to create a central hub level, which would change and update as players progressed through the story and some additional branching paths. This was an entirely new concept for the franchise, which had previously provided a solely linear experience. This involved UI changes and tools to allow designers to modify level state based upon the current progression state.
Speech Bubbles (UI)
As the pack was based upon a comic book property, I extended the speech bubble functionality in LBP to allow for thought bubbles and captions, involving updates to the UI rendering and creating new shaders.
Tools Design
Due to my experience from LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, I also assisted with the tools design for all new features in the pack. As with all LittleBigPlanet titles, the tools used to to make the pack were provided to end users so it was important that they met the franchise standards.
