Helmetfall is a 2-4 player couch competitive game, developed during a 4 day game jam in Örebro Castle in July 2016. The game has a simple game loop with players blasting each other with rocket launchers, in an attempt to dislodge their helmets, which can be collected for points.
Gameplay
Each player in Helmetfall is assigned a different gravity direction at the beginning on the game, giving a twist to the simple concept that requires you to not only keep track of your own orientation, but that of the other players. Rockets arc with the gravity direction of the shooter, as do the helmets when they are removed by a rocket. In addition, the world rotates to keep the player with the lowest score on the bottom of the screen, both to give a rubber-banding effect, and prevent anyone getting too comfortable!
My Contributions
As the only dedicated coder on the team, I built most of the core gameplay systems in game: player controls, scoring and tracking of gravity directions.
Want to Play Helmetfall?
Good news! We uploaded a playable build of the game at the end of the game jam. All you need is 2-4 controllers and some buddies to play!
