Down and Out in Chat City is a single-player, turn-based, bar-room brawl simulator, developed during Tarsier Studios’ 2015 Game Jam. Players can pull off awesome acrobatic combos by directly posing their character each turn; punching, kicking, body-slamming and otherwise assaulting a bizarre assortment of combatants.
Controls and Animation
The game’s control scheme has you manipulating 5 effectors (hands, feet and head), on a holographic version of the character. Once happy with your move, you confirm it to play out the turn. To manipulate the hologram, I created a ragdoll-based hologram, that was controlled by dragging individual constraints on the effectors. To play out the turn, the ragdoll pose is converted to animation data and used Unreal’s blending to resolve the motion.
